Of all the weird and wonderful things that have happened to me in my career, perhaps nothing tops this: my inclusion in the Yeti Museum of the Expedition Everest attraction at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. As a child, I was enraptured by our annual vacations to Walt Disney World. My earliest expeditions were aboard the Jungle Cruise, the Nautilus, and rockets spinning above Tomorrowland. These voyages ignited my young mind, and I’ve been seeking adventure ever since. The fact that this mysterious footprint we recovered in the Himalayas has been afforded a little presence inside this furnace of imagination is so meaningful to me. I visited the park today, and watched a million reflections of my young self in the eyes of kids staring agape at the floating mountains of Pandora or nervously facing down the Yeti on the icy slopes of Everest. Wonder sometimes seems in short supply, but I saw a lot of it today, and felt it for myself as I grinned like a fool for this picture. I don’t think I’ll ever stop thanking you for the honor of being included here @joerohde.
Enjoying an off-world adventure on #Pandora with Alpha Centauri Expeditions. Floating mountains, flying banshees, bioluminescent rivers, deadly predators - my kind of place.
Good morning! The sun is shining, the birds are singing, and I’m pretty sure this drink has a pint of tequila in it. #Mondays
We descended deep into the tomb of the pharaoh Akhenaten today. There, by the glow of my flashlight, we made a major discovery: the world’s first Weber Grill. @webergrills #egypt #ExpeditionUnknown
